Prokineticin signaling comprises two secreted proteins (Prok-1 and Prok-2) and two cognate G-protein coupled receptors (PK-R1 and PK-R2) that are widely expressed in different tissues and of great versatility. Prokineticins were shown to promote angiogenesis in steroidgenic glands, heart and reproductive organs (PMID:18440852). PROK1 has been described as a secretory protein with pleiotropic functions and as a novel tissue-specific angiogenic factor (PMID:32355954).
