The deduced 505-amino acid protein contains a predicted signal sequence, several transmembrane regions, and four potential N-glycosylation sites. It is a glycosylated enzyme involved in prenylated protein catabolism, releasing a free cysteine and a hydrophobic isoprenoid product. Immunofluorescence studies of PCYOX1 showed a nonnuclear punctate pattern, and PCYOX1 colocalized with lysosomal marker LAMP1 in HEK293 cells(PMID:10585463). The enzyme is isolated from bovine brain membranes and exhibits an apparent molecular mass of 63 kDa(PMID:9287348).
