APP is expressed in many tissues and concentrated in the synapses of neurons. The molecular weight of APP is 100-140 kDa due to the existence of several isoforms. The phosphorylation of APP at Thr668 is involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The Phospho-APP Thr668 form is neuron‐specific, highly expressed in dystrophic neurites and amyloid plaques of Alzheimer disease, and induces neurodegeneration(PMID: 27076121).
