WDR73 was present in the brain and kidney and was located diffusely in the cytoplasm during interphase but relocalized to spindle poles and astral microtubules during mitosis. WDR73 interacts with microtubules to regulate cell cycle progression, proliferation, and survival in the brain and kidney(PMID: 26070982). Reduced expression of WDR73 results in abnormalities in the size and morphology of the nucleus. Mutations in WDR73 have been associated with Galloway-Mowat syndrome, which is a rare autosomal recessive disorder that affects both the central nervous system and the kidney (PMID: 25466283).
