It is a pyridoxal-5'-phosphate-(pyridoxal-P)-depe11dent enzyme that catalyses the cleavage of L-kynurenine and L-3-hydroxykynurenine into anthranilic and 3-hydroxyanthranilic acids, respectively(PMID:8706755).
