Additional Information
µPorasil Silica Column, 125Å, 10 µm, 3.9 mm X 300 mm, 1/pk As one of the first commercially available fully porous packing materials used in liquid chromatography separations, μPorasil Silica Columns use a non-bonded, silica-based material designed to provide normal-phase separations in a wide array of sample types. This is achieved while offering high efficiency and low backpressure. The 10 μm particle size means these columns can be used as a starting point for scaling up, during the development of a new purification protocol, or to investigate which preparative particle size provides the best balance between resolution, throughput, and cost. Waters’ family of HPLC columns is a full line of state-of-the-art, reversed-phase, and HILIC HPLC columns. This lab equipment is chosen by scientists that seek performance and innovation. However, HPLC separations will always present challenges, even to a skilled chromatographer. Preparative columns themselves can often lead to inconsistencies in column-to-column performance and poor lifetimes that lead to lost samples and repeat purification runs. In order to address these problems, along with poor scalability between large and small volume columns, Waters has studied all aspects of the packing process and column design, leading to the μPorasil Silica Columns, which aim to resolve many common issues with related work. Each package will include one μPorasil Silica Column with an inner diameter of 3.9 mm and a length of 300 mm. Waters recommends pairing these columns with the µPorasil Silica Guard Column, 125Å, 10 µm, 3.9 mm X 20 mm, 2/pk for optimal column lifetime. Operating limits include a maximum pressure of 6000 psi or 415 bar and a pH range of 2 pH to 8 pH.
FAQ
How Do I Protect My μPorasil Silica Columns? In order to care for columns and ensure continued high performance, there are precautions that laboratories should take. All steel columns can be protected from contaminants using a Waters Sentry Guard Column or insert.
Before analysis, samples can be cleaned to avoid contamination with a Waters Sep-Pak SPE cartridge or Oasis cartridge. Make sure all solvents are miscible when changing mobile phases to prevent separation and precipitation.
Always be sure to degas and filter mobile phases through a 0.22 μm membrane filter. Waters recommends an Acrodisc filter by Gelman Sciences.
