The TRIM71 protein also known as LIN41 is a E3 ubiquitin ligase with a molecular weight of approximately 110 kDa. It regulates protein levels by tagging specific substrates with ubiquitin for proteasomal degradation. TRIM71 is expressed in various tissues including embryonic stem cells and the central nervous system. It functions in the regulation of developmental pathways serving a role in controlling cell differentiation and proliferation.
Biological function summary
TRIM71 plays an important role in the regulation of gene expression and cellular processes. This protein interacts as part of ribonucleoprotein complexes which influence RNA stability and translation. It is involved in the repression of target mRNAs through binding and modifying RNA-binding proteins which in turn affects gene expression during early development. TRIM71 also contributes to maintaining the balance between stem cell self-renewal and differentiation ensuring proper organismal development.
