Product details:
Abcam's anti-Influenza virus B IgM Human
in vitro
ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the accurate qualitative measurement of IgM class antibodies against Influenza virus B in Human serum and plasma.
A 96-well plate has been precoated with Influenza virus B antigens to bind cognate antibodies. Controls or test samples are added to the wells and incubated. Following washing, a horseradish peroxidase (HRP) labelled anti-Human IgM conjugate is added to the wells, which binds to the immobilized Influenza virus B-specific antibodies. TMB is then catalyzed by the HRP to produce a blue color product that changes to yellow after adding an acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration is directly proportional to the amount of Influenza virus B IgM sample captured in plate.

Influenza Virus B IgM is an immunoglobulin that plays a mechanical role in the early immune response against Influenza B virus. This antibody often identified by its alternate name IgM has a pentameric structure with a molecular mass of approximately 900 kDa. Unlike other antibodies IgM is predominantly expressed in the blood and lymphatic fluid. It helps in recognizing antigens and initiating immune defense mechanisms.
Biological function summary
Antibodies like IgM engage with the immune response by binding to the viral antigens and initiating complement activation. IgM is not part of a larger antibody complex but functions independently to activate the innate immune response. This process assists the body's defense system to identify and neutralize the Influenza B virus efficiently. IgM plays a critical role as the first line of defense before other antibodies such as IgG come into the action during viral infection.
Pathways
Influenza B IgM plays a significant role in the complement activation pathway and the classical pathway. Through these pathways IgM facilitates the activation of complement proteins that mediate the destruction of the virus. This function links IgM to important proteins such as C1q which is essential for the initiation of the classical complement pathway. Such pathways are necessary for the recognition and elimination of pathogens from the host.
Influenza B IgM levels rise significantly during an Influenza B virus infection playing a role in clearing the virus from the body. Health professionals utilize IgM levels to determine early-stage infection. While not directly relating to chronic diseases IgM level evaluation helps in distinguishing acute viral conditions from other non-viral disorders. It interfaces with proteins involved in immune reactions solidifying its importance in the diagnosis and understanding of immune response to respiratory infections.
