HCG Holo c3 also known as Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Holo Core 3 is a glycoprotein hormone with a mass of approximately 37 kDa. It consists of an alpha subunit and a beta subunit which form a dimeric structure. The target is widely expressed in the placenta and is secreted during pregnancy. This hormone plays a critical role in maintaining the corpus luteum which is essential for sustaining early pregnancy. It also interacts with the luteinizing hormone/chorionic gonadotropin receptor.
Biological function summary
The hCG hormone is important for reproductive physiology. It supports fetal development by promoting angiogenesis and modulating the immune response. As part of the larger glycoprotein hormone family it shares structural similarities with other glycoproteins like LH FSH and TSH. These proteins form a complex influencing various biological processes by binding to their respective receptors.
Pathways
The hCG Holo c3 participates in the reproductive hormonal signaling pathway that regulates reproductive function. It is involved in the pregnancy pathway where it interacts with several proteins including steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR) and aromatase. These interactions help regulate the production of progesterone and other steroid hormones necessary for maintaining pregnancy.
Abnormal levels of hCG Holo c3 have associations with trophoblastic diseases and certain types of cancer such as choriocarcinoma. Its levels serve as biomarkers for pregnancy tests and monitoring some cancers. The hCG hormone relates to disorders involving abnormal pregnancy such as ectopic pregnancy. Additionally it connects to the luteinizing hormone through its shared receptor pathway highlighting its role in reproductive and endocrine health.
