JAB1 also known as c-Jun activation domain-binding protein 1 or COP9 signalosome complex subunit 5 (COPS5) plays a mechanical role as part of the COP9 signalosome. It has a mass of around 37 kDa. JAB1 expresses in various tissues and connects with several proteins for controlling diverse cellular processes. The protein acts as a coactivator for transcription factors like c-Jun playing a part in cellular response to environmental changes.
Biological function summary
The COP9 signalosome of which JAB1 is a part regulates protein degradation by modifying the activity of cullin-RING ubiquitin ligases. This complex plays an important part in processes like cell cycle progression and signal transduction.
