Heat Shock Factor 2 Binding Protein (HSF2BP) takes part in the regulation of heat shock response by interacting with Heat Shock Factor 2 (HSF2). It has a molecular mass of approximately 39 kDa. Expression of HSF2BP occurs mainly in testes though smaller amounts might be found in other tissues. HSF2BP directly associates with HSF2 altering its activity under stress conditions and regulates the transcription of heat shock proteins that protect cells from stress-induced damage.
Biological function summary
HSF2BP modulates stress response mechanisms by influencing the availability of HSF2. It forms a complex with other proteins and regulates protein stability. This protein exerts control over the expression of genes involved in stress response and cellular protection. HSF2BP's activity equates to a regulatory checkpoint in the cellular stress response ensuring appropriate chaperone activity and protein folding.
Pathways
HSF2BP intersects with the molecular chaperone network and the protein quality control pathways in cells. It interacts with pathways involving HSF2 and Heat Shock Factor 1 (HSF1) both critical for maintaining cellular integrity under stress conditions. HSF2BP influences these pathways by regulating the dynamic assembly of the transcription complex impacting gene expression profiles during stress response events.
HSF2BP relates to reproductive and developmental health including infertility and neurodegenerative diseases. Aberrant expression or mutations in HSF2BP can disrupt the balance of cellular stress responses potentially contributing to disease states. Its interaction with HSF2 and HSF1 implicates it in disorders such as Alzheimer's where protein misfolding and stress response mechanisms are compromised. Understanding HSF2BP's role in these diseases could help to identify targets for therapeutic intervention.
