TRIM10 also known as Tripartite Motif Containing 10 is a protein that belongs to the TRIM family characterized by its tripartite motif which includes a RING finger one or two B-box domains and a coiled-coil region. It has an approximate molecular mass of 60 kDa. TRIM10 expresses mainly in hematopoietic tissues such as the bone marrow and various cell types within the immune system. Its structure suggests a role in protein-protein interactions particularly those involved with ubiquitination processes.
Biological function summary
TRIM10 participates in immune response modulation and iron homeostasis. Within biological systems it seems to play a part in a protein complex that influences the cytoskeleton's organization and cellular trafficking. TRIM10 supports erythropoiesis facilitating the maturation and differentiation of erythroid cells in the bone marrow. This involvement highlights its influence in maintaining effective functional condition of red blood cell populations.
Pathways
TRIM10 participates in the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway which controls the degradation of proteins and is important for regulating protein levels and function in cells. It engages particularly within the heme biosynthesis pathway tying it to proteins like ferrochelatase and other enzymes necessary for the iron incorporation into heme. These pathways are essential for managing both cellular iron levels and oxidative stress responses.
TRIM10 has associations with conditions like sickle cell disease and anemia. Dysregulation or mutation of TRIM10 can lead to impaired erythroid differentiation or function contributing to these hematologic disorders. Its connection to proteins involved in iron metabolism means that any irregularities may echo into broader heme production issues linking it further to hemolytic diseases.
