MRGX3 also known as MAS-related G protein-coupled receptor member X3 is a G protein-coupled receptor primarily involved in cell signaling. It has a molecular mass of approximately 45 kDa. MRGX3 predominantly expresses in the dorsal root ganglia and a subset of sensory neurons. As a receptor MRGX3 binds to specific ligands and activates intracellular G proteins leading to downstream signaling cascades.
Biological function summary
The receptor influences pain sensation and modulation pathways. It does this by interacting with various ligands to modulate neuronal excitability. MRGX3 does not appear to form part of a larger receptor complex but acts within the framework of peripheral nervous system signaling. Its presence in sensory neurons suggests an essential role in responding to environmental stimuli and possibly modulating inflammatory responses.
Pathways
MRGX3 takes part in the pain regulation and sensory perception pathways. It interacts with other proteins like TRPV1 which is involved in the heat pain pathway and modulates pain sensation. While MRGX3's precise place in the signaling pathway is not entirely understood it is clear that it influences signal transduction through G protein-dependent mechanisms relevant for pain and sensory functions.
MRGX3 connects to neuropathic pain and chronic inflammation-related disorders. Alterations or dysregulation of MRGX3 function can contribute to exacerbated pain states. Studies suggest an interaction with proteins such as GPR183 linking MRGX3 to the development of chronic pain disorders though research is ongoing to fully elucidate these connections.
