C8G also known as complement component 8 gamma plays a significant role in the immune system's function. This protein has a mass of approximately 22 kDa and forms a part of the complement component 8 complex which acts as a critical player in the formation of the Membrane Attack Complex (MAC). Researchers have found C8G in various tissues with notable expression in the liver. The protein is generally released into the bloodstream as part of its involvement in immune responses.

Complement component 8 gamma participates in puncturing pathogen cell membranes. It functions within the Membrane Attack Complex a structure important for antimicrobial activity.
