ATF7 (activating transcription factor 7) is a transcription factor that belongs to the ATF/CREB family. It has alternative names such as ATFa and B-ATF. Mechanically ATF7 regulates transcription by binding to cyclic AMP response elements (CRE) in DNA. This protein has a mass of approximately 55 kDa. ATF7 is expressed in various tissues throughout the body including the brain liver and spleen supporting its involvement in multiple physiological processes.
Biological function summary
ATF7 functions in cellular stress responses and cell differentiation. It often forms a complex with other transcription factors to exert its effects on gene expression.
