Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is a glycoprotein with a molecular mass of approximately 35 kDa. It is synthesized and secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. FSH sometimes referred to as Follitropin consists of two subunits: the alpha subunit which is common among other pituitary glycoprotein hormones like luteinizing hormone (LH) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and the beta subunit which is unique to FSH and imparts its biological specificity.
