MRGPRF also known as Mas-related G-protein coupled receptor member F is a protein with an approximate mass of 37 kDa. It acts mechanically by binding to specific ligands and transducing signals through G-proteins which then trigger intracellular responses. Scientists identified its expression in several tissues including sensory neurons skin and smooth muscle cells. Its function as a receptor suggests its involvement in modulating various physiological processes.
Biological function summary
MRGPRF contributes to the modulation of pain and is part of the sensory perception of itch. It does not form a complex but operates potentially with other G-protein coupled receptors to mediate responses to environmental stimuli. Activation of MRGPRF may influence the release of neural peptides contributing to cellular communication within the nervous system. Its presence in skin also hints at roles in cutaneous sensory perception.
Pathways
MRGPRF interacts in the neuropeptide signaling and the inflammatory pathways. These pathways involve vital forms of cellular communication that play a role in reacting to external stimuli such as noxious chemicals. MRGPRF shows relationships with other proteins such as those belonging to the Mas-related gene family all of which participate in similar neuro-sensory responses. Its regulatory effects on inflammation suggest interactions with inflammatory mediators through these pathways.
MRGPRF could relate to chronic pain disorders and inflammation-driven skin diseases like atopic dermatitis. Changes in its function or expression may influence these conditions by altering sensory signaling. MRGPRF's role in these disorders connects with proteins involved in inflammatory responses such as cytokines which modulate immune system activity. Understanding MRGPRF's involvement in these diseases could offer insights into developing new therapeutic strategies.
