REACH authorisation
Abcam has not and does not intend to apply for the REACH Authorisation of customers' uses of products that contain European Authorisation list (Annex XIV) substances.
It is the responsibility of our customers to check the necessity of application of REACH Authorisation, and any other relevant authorisations, for their intended uses.
Lysate preparation:
Our lysates are made using RIPA buffer to which we add a protease inhibitor cocktail and phosphatase inhibitor cocktail (ratio: 300:100:10).
This means that the protein of interest is denatured.
If you require a native form of the protein please use the live cell version. Please refer to our lysis protocol for further details on how our lysates are prepared.
User storage instructions:
Lyophilizate may be stored at 4°C. After reconstitution, store at -20°C for short-term storage or -80°C for long-term storage.
This product is subject to limited use licenses from The Broad Institute and ERS Genomics Limited, and is developed with patented technology. For full details of the limited use licenses and relevant patents please refer to our

VILIP3 also known as Visinin-like protein 3 is a member of the neuronal calcium sensor (NCS) family. This protein holds a mass of approximately 22 kDa and plays a critical role in calcium signaling. VILIP3 is expressed in the brain and has been found in different neuronal tissues. It acts mechanically by binding calcium ions and undergoing a conformational change which allows it to interact with other intracellular targets. This binding modulates various cellular processes essential for the proper functioning of neurons.
Biological function summary
VILIP3 influences neuronal signaling pathways and synaptic plasticity. This protein does not operate as part of a large complex but interacts with specific target proteins. It aids in regulating the function of cyclic nucleotide signaling impacting cellular processes like neuronal communication and response to stimuli. VILIP3 may also play a role in sensory perception through its influence on calcium-dependent pathways.
Pathways
This neuronally expressed protein directly influences the cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) signaling pathway. This pathway is vital for neurotransmission and memory formation processes. VILIP3 interacts with proteins such as adenylate cyclases which are key enzymes in the cAMP pathway. It helps modulate the activity of these enzymes affecting the production of cAMP and influencing signal transduction in neurons.
VILIP3 has a connection to neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and certain forms of epilepsy. In Alzheimer's VILIP3 may interact with proteins like amyloid-beta precursor protein contributing to the disease pathology. Additionally disruptions in calcium signaling involving VILIP3 may relate to epileptic activity where it connects with proteins in calcium pathways that influence neuronal excitability and network stability. Researchers are continuing to investigate these relationships to better understand and address these conditions.
