REACH authorisation
Abcam has not and does not intend to apply for the REACH Authorisation of customers' uses of products that contain European Authorisation list (Annex XIV) substances.
It is the responsibility of our customers to check the necessity of application of REACH Authorisation, and any other relevant authorisations, for their intended uses.
Lysate preparation:
Our lysates are made using RIPA buffer to which we add a protease inhibitor cocktail and phosphatase inhibitor cocktail (ratio: 300:100:10).
This means that the protein of interest is denatured.
If you require a native form of the protein please use the live cell version. Please refer to our lysis protocol for further details on how our lysates are prepared.
User storage instructions:
Lyophilizate may be stored at 4°C. After reconstitution, store at -20°C for short-term storage or -80°C for long-term storage.
This product is subject to limited use licenses from The Broad Institute and ERS Genomics Limited, and is developed with patented technology. For full details of the limited use licenses and relevant patents please refer to our

Calmodulin 2 (CALM2) is a calcium-binding messenger protein involved in many cellular processes. It is also known as CALM and shows a molecular weight of approximately 16.7 kDa. CALM2 interacts with various protein targets to regulate intracellular calcium levels. This protein is ubiquitous meaning it is expressed in many tissues throughout the body which reflects its essential role in cellular functions.
Biological function summary
CALM2 acts as a critical mediator in calcium signaling pathways. It forms complexes with other proteins to transmit calcium signals that are important for activities such as muscle contraction cell division and memory formation. CALM2 activates various enzymes ion channels and other proteins through its calcium-binding ability thereby translating calcium ion fluctuations into cellular responses.
Pathways
The involvement of CALM2 in calcium-dependent pathways like the calcium signaling pathway and the MAPK/ERK pathway is significant. It interacts with proteins such as calcineurin and kinases like calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase (CaMK) facilitating the transmission of signals inside cells. Its role in these pathways highlights its importance in regulating diverse cellular activities including cell proliferation and gene expression.
CALM2's dysregulation or mutation links to conditions such as cardiac arrhythmia and Alzheimer's disease. Mutations in the CALM2 protein can affect other calcium-binding proteins such as troponin in the context of cardiac diseases leading to abnormal heart rhythms. Additionally its altered activity in neurons associates with Alzheimer's disease indicating a connection to tau protein malfunctions and calcium dysregulation in neurodegenerative disorders.
