REACH authorisation
Abcam has not and does not intend to apply for the REACH Authorisation of customers' uses of products that contain European Authorisation list (Annex XIV) substances.
It is the responsibility of our customers to check the necessity of application of REACH Authorisation, and any other relevant authorisations, for their intended uses.
Lysate preparation:
Our lysates are made using RIPA buffer to which we add a protease inhibitor cocktail and phosphatase inhibitor cocktail (ratio: 300:100:10).
This means that the protein of interest is denatured.
If you require a native form of the protein please use the live cell version. Please refer to our lysis protocol for further details on how our lysates are prepared.
User storage instructions:
Lyophilizate may be stored at 4°C. After reconstitution, store at -20°C for short-term storage or -80°C for long-term storage.
This product is subject to limited use licenses from The Broad Institute, ERS Genomics Limited and Sigma-Aldrich Co. LLC, and is developed with patented technology. For full details of the licenses and patents please refer to our

CALM3 also known as Calmodulin-3 is a calcium-binding protein with a molecular weight of approximately 17 kDa. It belongs to the calmodulin family and it expresses ubiquitously across various tissues in the human body. This protein plays a mechanical role by binding to calcium ions leading to conformational changes that facilitate interaction with other target proteins. Its ability to transduce calcium signals makes it vital for many cellular processes.
Biological function summary
Beyond its role in calcium binding CALM3 interacts with a wide network of proteins forming complexes that regulate cellular activities. It modulates enzyme activities and ion channels influencing cellular signaling pathways. Its central position allows it to impact diverse biological functions such as muscle contraction intracellular transport and cell division. It operates intricately with its family members CALM1 and CALM2 showing how calmodulin proteins often work collectively in cellular environments.
Pathways
CALM3 significantly influences the calcium signaling pathway and plays a critical role in the phosphoinositide pathway. In calcium signaling it helps in translating calcium fluctuations into specific cellular responses interacting with proteins like CaMKII and calcineurin which are pivotal in maintaining cellular homeostasis. The involvement in the phosphoinositide pathway further links it with membrane trafficking and signal transduction demonstrating its connectivity within cellular signaling networks.
Mutations and dysregulation of CALM3 are associated with cardiac conditions such as long QT syndrome and catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia. These conditions often arise from improper calcium handling in heart cells implicating its binding partners like the ryanodine receptor in such pathologies. By understanding the role of CALM3 in these diseases new therapeutic strategies can be developed for cardiovascular disorders.
