REACH authorisation
Abcam has not and does not intend to apply for the REACH Authorisation of customers' uses of products that contain European Authorisation list (Annex XIV) substances.
It is the responsibility of our customers to check the necessity of application of REACH Authorisation, and any other relevant authorisations, for their intended uses.
Lysate preparation:
Our lysates are made using RIPA buffer to which we add a protease inhibitor cocktail and phosphatase inhibitor cocktail (ratio: 300:100:10).
This means that the protein of interest is denatured.
If you require a native form of the protein please use the live cell version. Please refer to our lysis protocol for further details on how our lysates are prepared.
User storage instructions:
Lyophilizate may be stored at 4°C. After reconstitution, store at -20°C for short-term storage or -80°C for long-term storage.
This product is subject to limited use licenses from The Broad Institute and ERS Genomics Limited, and is developed with patented technology. For full details of the limited use licenses and relevant patents please refer to our

The P2X5 receptor also known as P2RX5 is a member of the P2X family of receptors which are ligand-gated ion channels activated by extracellular ATP. P2X5 is a protein that weighs approximately 53 kDa. It is expressed in various tissues particularly prominent in the immune and nervous system. The receptor facilitates the movement of ions such as calcium sodium and potassium across the cell membrane influencing cellular depolarization and signaling.
Biological function summary
P2X5 plays a significant role in modulating immune responses and synaptic transmission. It forms homomeric or heteromeric complexes with other P2X receptor subtypes like P2X1 and P2X2 affecting its functionality. The receptor's presence in the lymphatic tissues suggests its involvement in lymphocyte proliferation and function. Additionally P2X5 influences neurotransmitter release in neural contexts impacting neuron-to-neuron communication.
Pathways
P2X5 participates prominently in the purinergic signaling pathway and has roles in the immune response pathway. It is involved with related proteins like P2X1 and P2X4 in mediating several physiological functions. In purinergic signaling the activation of P2X5 receptor channels by ATP affects numerous downstream processes involving calcium influx which is critical to the function of both neuronal and immune pathways.
P2X5 has been linked to certain inflammatory conditions and neurological disorders. For instance its pro-inflammatory roles make it a point of interest in studying autoimmune diseases. Furthermore abnormalities in P2X5 activity have been associated with multiple sclerosis implicating it in the demyelination processes. The receptor interacts with pro-inflammatory cytokines and such interactions may exacerbate disease states highlighting the therapeutic potential of targeting P2X5 in treatment interventions.
