Human Obestatin ELISA Kit (ab264628) is a single-wash 90 min sandwich ELISA designed for the quantitative measurement of Obestatin protein in edta plasma. It uses our proprietary SimpleStep ELISA® technology. Quantitate Human Obestatin with 8 pg/ml sensitivity.

Obestatin, is generated from the proteolytic cleavage of preproghrelin; its sequence corresponds to amino acids 76-98 of Appetite-regulating hormone [Precursor](Q9QYH7). This peptide has contrasting actions to Ghrelin (a different product of proteolytic cleavage of preproghrelin) in that it inhibits food intake and gastrointestinal motility but does not modify in vitro GH release from pituitary cells.

Obestatin also known as the obestatin hormone is a 23-amino acid peptide with a mass of approximately 2.5 kDa. Researchers discovered it as a cleavage product from the Ghrelin preprohormone. Obestatin is mainly expressed in the stomach and small intestine but one can also find it in other tissues such as the pancreas and adipose tissue. This peptide acts mechanically by binding to its receptor GPR39 although the binding affinity and downstream effects remain subjects of investigation.
