The MZT2B protein also known as Mitotic Spindle-Organizing Protein 2B is a component of the mitotic spindle apparatus. It plays a role in the organization of microtubules during cell division. MZT2B has a molecular mass of approximately 20 kDa. It is expressed in various tissues with prominent expression in proliferative tissues such as those in the reproductive system and certain areas of the brain.
Biological function summary
The MZT2B protein contributes to the proper formation and function of the mitotic spindle. It is an integral part of the gamma-tubulin ring complex which is critical for microtubule nucleation at centrosomes. This complex ensures the stability and anchoring of microtubules facilitating accurate and equal chromosome segregation during mitosis.
