RNF10 also known as RING finger protein 10 is an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that plays a role in attaching ubiquitin molecules to target substrates marking them for proteasomal degradation. RNF10 has a molecular weight of approximately 75 kDa. It is expressed in various tissues including the brain heart and skeletal muscle. RNF10 contains a RING finger domain important for its ligase activity allowing it to interact with E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes.
Biological function summary
RNF10 participates in regulating cellular processes like neurodevelopment and muscle differentiation. It interacts with other proteins to form complexes that influence cell signaling pathways and transcription regulation. This protein's activities affect neuronal growth and synaptic plasticity important for learning and memory. RNF10 also has implications in muscle cells where it modulates the expression of genes related to muscle function.
Pathways
RNF10 takes part in the MAPK signaling pathway which plays a role in cell proliferation and differentiation. In this pathway RNF10 interacts with proteins such as MEK and ERK allowing it to influence downstream signaling processes. Additionally RNF10 has connections to the Wnt signaling pathway impacting gene expression patterns important for development. These interactions highlight its role in orchestrating complex cellular responses.
RNF10 is linked to neurological and muscular conditions. Its involvement in neurodevelopment suggests a connection to neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's where protein degradation processes may go awry. In muscular disorders RNF10 may interact with proteins like MYOD1 influencing muscle differentiation and regeneration. These associations highlight the importance of understanding RNF10's role in healthy and diseased states.
