Cholecystokinin often referenced as CCK is a peptide hormone with a mass of approximately 8 kDa. It plays a mechanical role by being released from the I-cells in the small intestine particularly the duodenum. This release occurs in response to nutrients in the gut such as fats and proteins. Cholecystokinin acts by binding to its receptors CCK-A and CCK-B to execute its functions.
