This Sandwich ELISA kit is an
in vitro
enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the measurement of mouse phospho-GSK3 alpha. An anti-pan GSK3 alpha antibody has been coated onto a 96-well plate. Samples are pipetted into the wells and GSK3 alpha present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed, and rabbit anti-phospho-GSK3 alpha (S21) antibody is used to detect phosphorylated GSK3 alpha. After washing away unbound antibody, HRP conjugated anti-rabbit IgG is pipetted into the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of GSK3 alpha (S21) bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

Glycogen synthase kinase 3 alpha (GSK3 alpha) is a serine/threonine protein kinase also known as GSK3A with a molecular mass of approximately 51 kDa. It plays an important role in the regulation of various cellular processes. GSK3 alpha is expressed in many tissues but has high levels in the brain heart and skeletal muscle. It participates in the phosphorylation of numerous substrates impacting their activity and stability.
Biological function summary
GSK3 alpha influences several cellular functions including cell division differentiation and apoptosis. It functions independently or as part of a protein complex often forming dimeric complexes with GSK3 beta. GSK3 alpha alters the activity of numerous transcription factors and regulates insulin and Wnt signaling pathways affecting glucose metabolism and cellular growth.
