Product details:
The Human Annexin A13 ELISA (ab283992) Kit is designed for detection of annexin A13 in human plasma, serum, cell culture, and cell lysate samples.
This assay employs a quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique that measures human annexin A13 in approximately 4 hours. A polyclonal antibody specific for human annexin A13 has been pre-coated onto a 96-well microplate with removable strips. Annexin A13 in standards and samples is sandwiched by the immobilized antibody and a biotinylated polyclonal antibody specific for human annexin A13, which is recognized by a streptavidin-peroxidase (SP) conjugate. All unbound material is washed away and a peroxidase enzyme substrate is added. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

Annexin-13 also known as ANXA13 acts mainly as a calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding protein. ANXA13 often mediates interactions between the cell membrane and cytoskeleton. Its molecular weight is around 36 kDa. Expression levels of ANXA13 are higher in intestinal tissues compared to other tissues like the liver or kidney. Researchers also find it commonly in the epithelial cells due to its role in membrane dynamics.
Biological function summary
ANXA13 functions in cellular growth processes apoptosis and signal transduction. It likely interacts with cellular structures like membranes by binding to phospholipids in the presence of calcium ions. ANXA13 does not usually operate alone but may form complexes with other proteins. Though less studied than other annexins ANXA13 contributes to cellular homeostasis essential for efficient functioning of the intestinal cells where its expression is more noticeable.
Pathways
ANXA13 plays a role in calcium signaling and membrane trafficking. It interacts with intracellular phospholipids and aids in the regulation of membrane-associated activity which is significant in endocytosis pathways. ANXA13 potentially shares functional relationships with other annexins like ANXA1 and ANXA5 within these pathways aligning them in coordinating cellular responses to calcium ion changes.
ANXA13 seems associated with specific gastrointestinal diseases and possibly certain cancers. Altered expression of ANXA13 occurs in intestinal inflammation and could impact diseases like Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Moreover changes in ANXA13 expression or function have implications in colorectal cancer development often in conjunction with other annexins such as ANXA4. Understanding ANXA13's involvement could help in developing therapeutic approaches to manage these conditions efficiently.
