Product details:
Human LHB SimpleStep ELISA® kit (ab303746) is a single-wash 90 min sandwich ELISA designed for the quantitative measurement of Human LHB protein in serum, plasma (EDTA), plasma (hep), plasma (cit), urine and cell culture media. Quantitate Human LHB with 21.227 pg/ml sensitivity.
SimpleStep ELISA® technology employs capture antibodies conjugated to an affinity tag that is recognized by the monoclonal antibody used to coat our SimpleStep ELISA® plates. This approach to sandwich ELISA allows the formation of the antibody-analyte sandwich complex in a single step, significantly reducing assay time. See the SimpleStep ELISA® protocol summary in the image section for further details. Our SimpleStep ELISA® technology provides several benefits:
-Single-wash protocol reduces assay time to 90 minutes or less
-High sensitivity, specificity and reproducibility from superior antibodies
-Fully validated in biological samples
-96-wells plate breakable into 12 x 8 wells strips
A 384-well SimpleStep ELISA® microplate (
ab203359
) is available to use as an alternative to the 96-well microplate provided with SimpleStep ELISA® kits.

LHB also known as luteinizing hormone beta or beta LH is a subunit of luteinizing hormone (LH). It plays an important mechanical role in gonadal function. LHB shares a common alpha subunit with other glycoprotein hormones while the beta subunit which is unique to each hormone confers biological specificity. LHB contributes to the dimeric structure of LH giving it a molecular mass around 30 kDa. This protein is expressed mainly in the anterior pituitary gland where it interacts with cells that influence reproductive processes.
Biological function summary
LHB binds with the alpha subunit to form the active LH hormone which importantly stimulates the ovaries in females and testes in males. In females LH promotes the production of estrogen and progesterone facilitating ovulation and menstrual cycles. In males it stimulates Leydig cells leading to testosterone production. LH hormone functions as part of a complex with its receptor a G protein-coupled complex influencing the reproductive system's normal operations.
Pathways
The LHB is central to the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis a feedback loop that regulates reproductive physiology. Within this axis gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus stimulates LHB production in concert with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). These hormones together regulate the development and function of the gonads. LHB's interaction with LH receptors on gonadal tissues signifies its operational involvement in the steroidogenesis and gametogenesis pathways.
Abnormalities in LHB expression associate with conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and hypogonadism. In PCOS altered LHB levels lead to hormonal imbalances affecting fertility. Hypogonadism may result from insufficient LHB affecting sexual development and function. LHB's influence on testosterone and estrogen levels links it closely with disorders characterized by hormonal deficiencies or excesses tying it to complications involving the HPG axis.
