Syntaxin 1B often abbreviated as STX1B is an essential SNARE protein with a mass of approximately 33 kDa. This protein is mainly expressed in neurons and tissues with neural characteristics indicating its prominent role in the nervous system. Mechanically Syntaxin 1B facilitates the docking and fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane. Through this mechanism it aids in the release of neurotransmitters which is fundamental for synaptic transmission and communication between neurons.

This protein functions as a core component of the SNARE complex comprising Syntaxin 1B SNAP-25 and VAMP2.
