SerpinB4 also known as SCCA-2 is a member of the serine protease inhibitor family. This protein weighs approximately 45 kDa. Physically it inhibits the activity of serine proteases by forming stable complexes with target enzymes therefore blocking their activity. SerpinB4 is expressed mainly in the epithelial cells particularly in tissues like the skin esophagus and cervix. It acts by modulating proteolytic processes important for maintaining tissue integrity.

SerpinB4 plays a role in immune response regulation and protection against protease-mediated damage. It forms part of a regulatory network that controls inflammatory responses and cell death.
