RPP30 also known as Ribonuclease P protein subunit p30 is a protein involved in the enzymatic process that removes 5' leader sequences from precursor tRNA molecules. It has a mass of approximately 25 kDa. RPP30 is expressed in various tissues across the human body indicating its fundamental role in RNA processing.
Biological function summary
RPP30 plays a role as part of the Ribonuclease P complex which is important for the maturation of tRNA. The Ribonuclease P complex contains both RNA and protein components and RPP30 interacts with other subunits to form the complete ribonucleoprotein complex. This association is necessary for catalytic activity and stability of the complex.
Pathways
RPP30 is involved in RNA processing pathways important for cell viability. Specifically it is part of the tRNA processing pathway working alongside proteins like RPP14 and POP1 to assist in the maturation of tRNA. These interactions emphasize the integration of RPP30 in important cellular processes that affect protein synthesis.
Involvement of RPP30 in certain autoimmune conditions has been noted. Altered expression of RPP30 and its associated complex proteins can contribute to autoimmune diseases like systemic sclerosis. Additionally aberrations in RPP30 expression or function have been linked with alterations in RNA processing pathways that may impact cell proliferation and survival further showing connections to these disease states.
