Rad22 also known as RPA1 or replication protein A1 is a protein involved in DNA repair processes. It has a molecular mass of approximately 29 kDa. Rad22 is expressed in eukaryotic cells and has a critical role in maintaining the integrity of genetic material. The protein interacts with single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) during repair and replication processes forming a nucleoprotein complex that stabilizes ssDNA intermediates and protect them from nuclease degradation.
Biological function summary
Rad22 contributes to homologous recombination an essential mechanism for repairing double-strand breaks in DNA. Rad22 is a part of a larger multiprotein complex that includes Rad51 and other early recombination factors.
