RPL29 also known as ribosomal protein L29 is a structural component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit. It has a molecular mass of approximately 17 kDa. This protein contributes to ribosome function by connecting with rRNA and other ribosomal proteins to aid protein synthesis. RPL29 shows strong expression in tissues with high protein turnover such as the liver and pancreas where efficient protein production is necessary for maintaining cellular functions.
Biological function summary
RPL29 takes part in the assembly of the ribosome which is essential for the translation process in protein synthesis. It is not found alone; instead it becomes integrated into the large ribosomal subunit. This integration is critical for the assembly and stability of the ribosomal structure. Without proper RPL29 incorporation ribosome function and consequently cellular protein synthesis can become impaired.

Additionally aberrations in ribosome function where RPL29 is a player are associated with ribosomopathies a group of disorders characterized by defective ribosome biogenesis and function.
