Synapsin III also known as SYNIII is a phosphoprotein with an approximate mass of 64 kDa. Like other synapsins Synapsin III is mostly found in the brain where it plays an important role in synaptic function. It shows a widespread expression with notable abundance in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex. The protein associates with synaptic vesicles and neuronal membranes assisting in neurotransmitter release during neuronal communication.
