MLN51 also known as CASC3 is a protein that measures approximately 95 kDa. This protein plays an important role in RNA processing mechanisms including mRNA surveillance and transport by serving as a component of the exon junction complex (EJC). MLN51 is widely expressed throughout various tissues indicating its significant role in maintaining cellular function across different biological systems.
Biological function summary
MLN51/CASC3 participates actively in the formation and stability of the EJC a multiprotein complex essential for post-transcriptional regulation of mRNA. By associating with spliced mRNA the EJC marks the transcript for downstream processes such as localization translation and degradation.
