Rab-6 also known as Ras-related protein 6 acts as a GTPase involved in membrane trafficking. This protein has a molecular mass of approximately 24 kDa. Researchers find Rab-6 expressed in various tissues with high levels in the brain and lungs. It localizes primarily to the Golgi apparatus where it participates in the regulation of intracellular transport.
Biological function summary
Rab-6 aids in the coordination of retrograde vesicle transport from the Golgi to the endoplasmic reticulum. Rab-6 functions as part of a complex with other proteins including dynactin and cytoplasmic dynein to facilitate these movements.
