Visinin-like protein 1 (VILIP-1) is a member of the neuronal calcium sensor (NCS) protein family and plays an essential role in calcium-mediated signal transduction within the human central nervous system. VILIP-1 contains EF-hand motifs that bind calcium ions, leading to conformational changes that allow it to interact with various target proteins such as adenylyl cyclases and membrane-associated signaling molecules. Through these interactions, VILIP-1 modulates cyclic nucleotide signaling and synaptic plasticity, processes fundamental to learning, memory, and neuronal development. In Alzheimer’s disease (AD), neuronal injury and synaptic dysfunction result in the release of VILIP-1 into the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), where it can be detected at elevated levels. CSF VILIP-1 levels correlate with biomarkers of neuronal degeneration such as total Tau and phosphorylated Tau, and can predict cognitive decline and progression from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to AD.

Recommended Usage: Each lot of this antibody is quality control tested by western blotting. For western blotting, the suggested use of this reagent is 0.25 - 1.0 µg/mL. For immunocytochemistry, a concentration range of 1.0 - 10.0 μg/mL is recommended. It is recommended that the reagent be titrated for optimal performance for each application.
Additional Product Notes: For use in immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue (IHC-P), it is recommended to perform antigen retrieval using either Citrate Buffer, 10X (Cat. No. 420902) or Tris-EDTA pH 9.0 Antigen Retrieval Buffer (10X) (Cat. No. 422704).
