Product Description

TCF12, also known as HTF4 or HEB, is a member of class I basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) protein family that recognizes the consensus E-box (5'-CANNTG-3') DNA binding site. TCF12 is a transcription factor that participates in regulating gene expression through formation of homodimer or heterodimers with other bHLH E-proteins. TCF12 has been shown to be involved in neuron differentiation and is upregulated in certain cancer cells. TCF12 functions as a transcriptional repressor responsible for down-regulating expression of E-cadherin in colorectal cancer cells. TCF12-deficient mice show abnormality in brain development and a high percentage of postnatal death. Mutations in TCF12 gene have been linked to coronal craniosynostosis.
