Protocol
Available protocols: Western Blotting
Specificity / Sensitivity
Avi-Tag Antibody detects exogenously expressed proteins containing the Avi epitope tag. This antibody recognizes the Avi tag fused to either the amino or carboxy terminus of targeted proteins in transfected cells. This antibody detects exogenously expressed avi-tagged proteins in cells expressed under a CMV promoter. Expression under other promoters has not been evaluated.
Species Reactivity: All Species Expected
Source / Purification
Polyclonal antibodies are produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide containing the Avi sequence (GLNDIFEAQKIEWHE). Antibodies are purified by peptide affinity chromatography.
Background
Epitope tags are useful for the labeling and detection of proteins using immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, and immunostaining techniques. Because of their small size, they are unlikely to affect the tagged protein's biochemical properties. Avi-Tag is a small artificial peptide tag specifically recognized and biotinylated by the biotin ligase BirA (1). Biotinylated avi-tagged proteins can be detected or purified by streptavidin or avidin, exploiting their strong affinity for biotin (1,2).
