Background Tyrosinase-related protein 1 (TYRP1) is a highly glycosylated transmembrane, zinc-binding metalloenzyme that belongs to the tyrosinase family. TYRP1 expression promotes melanogenesis and is highly localized to the melanosomal subcellular compartment of skin and retinal pigment epithelium melanocytes in normal tissues (1-3).
