Solute carrier family 25 member 39 (SLC25A39) and its paralogue SLC25A40 were found to be essential for mitochondrial import of glutathione, thereby protecting against oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction (4,5). Changes in SLC25A39 and SLC25A40 expression were found in cholestasis-associated renal injury and LPS-induced inflammation (6).
