Species Reactivity: Human, Mouse, Rat Source / Purification Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the carboxy terminus of human Transgelin/TAGLN protein. Background Transgelin (TAGLN, SM22α) is an actin-binding protein of the calponin family. It contains an amino-terminal calponin homology domain and a carboxy-terminal calponin-like module domain required for actin binding (1,2). is a TGF-β inducible gene that is abundantly expressed in visceral and vascular smooth muscle cells, and is often used as an early marker of smooth muscle differentiation (3-5). TAGLN expression has also been shown in brain pericytes, providing use in studying the blood brain barrier (6). Altered levels of TAGLN are seen in multiple cancer types, including colorectal, breast, and prostate cancer (4).
