Background Laminins are a family of proteins important for maintaining cellular basement membrane (BM) structure and function (1). Laminins exist as heterotrimers of alpha (LAMA), beta (LAMB), and gamma (LAMC) chains. Laminins are reported to be involved in multiple biological processes, including cell adhesion, differentiation, migration, signaling, neurite outgrowth, and metastasis (2). LAMA1 is thought to bind to cells via a high affinity receptor to mediate their attachment, migration, and organization of cells into tissues during embryonic development (2). Aberrant expression of LAMA1 is also associated with disease progression in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (3).
