Background Family member of 129C (FAM129C) is a multi-pass transmembrane protein whose expression is restricted to the B cell lineage (1,2). In addition to transmembrane domains, FAM129C harbors proline-rich, leucine zipper, and PH domains, which suggests that it functions as a signaling adaptor. While the function of FAM129C still remains to be elucidated, research studies have suggested a role in oncogenesis, given that it is overexpressed in a myriad of human malignancies and is post-translationally regulated by PI3K signaling (2).
