Background Serine/threonine protein phosphatase 2A regulatory subunit 4 (PPP2R4) is one of the constituents of the regulatory subunit B' of PP2A (1). PPP2R4 is also known as the phosphatase activator (PTPA) and known to have the peptidyl prolyl isomerase (PPIase) activity (2-3). PPIases catalyze cis-trans isomerization of peptide bonds of proline residues in the polypeptide chain; this leads to the rapid folding of proteins (2). The ATPase activity of PPP2R4 is required for the phosphotyrosyl phosphatase activity of PP2A (2-4). Evidence suggests that PPP2R4 induces apoptosis independent of the canonical PP2A-mediated pathways (4).
