Background Bromodomain-containing protein 1 (BRD1), also known as BRPF2, is part of a histone acetyltransferase complex along with HBO1 that is responsible for global acetylation of Lys14 on histone H3 (1). BRD1 contains a unique PHD finger domain with a positively charged surface, which can bind DNA non-specifically via interaction with histone H3 (2,3). By driving histone acetylation around key genes, BRD1 has been implicated in many cellular functions, including stem cell differentiation, T-cell development, and erythropoiesis (1,4,5). The gene has been shown to confer susceptibility to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (6,7). BRD1 overexpression has been described in colorectal cancer, and BRD1 inhibition has been shown to increase immune therapy efficacy in high-grade ovarian cancer (8,9).
