Species Reactivity: Human Source / Purification Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the carboxy terminus of human MBOAT2 protein. Background Membrane-bound glycerophospholipid O-acyltransferase 2 (MBOAT2) is a phospholipid-modifying enzyme. It transfers an acyl group in an acyl-CoA to a lysophospholipid to produce a phospholipid (1,2). Studies show that MBOAT2 is a ferroptosis suppressor, and this function is independent of GPX4 or AIFM2/FSP1. MBOAT2 selectively catalyzes the transfer of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) to lysophosphatidylethanolamine (lyso-PE), producing more cellular PE-MUFAs and therefore reducing cellular PE-PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acids). MBOAT2 suppresses ferroptosis through phospholipid remodeling. In addition, MBOAT2 expression is upregulated by androgen receptor (AR) signaling in AR prostate cancer cells, therefore inhibiting their ferroptosis (3).
