RUFY3 likely functions in regulating neuronal polarization by interacting with the neuronal cytoskeleton via actin filament-binding proteins, such as Fascin (2). RUFY3 undergoes various forms of posttranslational modifications, including CASP3-dependent cleavage and phosphorylation, which may modulate selective synaptic and axonal degeneration during brain development and neurodegenerative disease (3).
