MBP helps to adhere the cytoplasmic leaflets of adjacent oligodendrocyte membranes to one another. Several splice variants of MBP are expressed in cells and the protein is modified following translation (i.e., phosphorylation, methylation), which suggests additional membrane adhesion functions (1).
