Background Mitoguardin 2 (MIGA2), also known as FAM73B, is a mitochondrial outer membrane protein (1-2). MIGA2 and the mitochondrial outer membrane protein MIGA1 (FAM73A) regulate mitochondrial fusion downstream of the mitofusin proteins (1). In addition, MIGA2 interacts with lipid droplets in adipocytes, linking mitochondria to lipid droplets (2). MIGA2 also interacts with the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane protein VAPA or VAPB, enabling endoplasmic reticulum-mitochondria contacts (2,3). Moreover, MIGA2 is essential for the biosynthesis of triacylglycerols and adipocyte differentiation (2).
